Communications and External Relations Strategy

This builds on the strategy agreed by the Management Board in January 2005. It is designed to respond to the changes the ICO has seen recently – and will continue to see. It ensures the organisation presents a clear, efficient and influential face to the outside world, supporting the organisation’s aims, values and objectives as set out in the Corporate Plan. Welsh Language Scheme (Welsh Language Act 1993)

The Information Commissioner's Office has prepared a Welsh Language Scheme that sets out how we will provide Welsh language services to the public in Wales. The Scheme was prepared with the assistance of the Welsh Language Board and came into effect on 21 March 2007. Welsh Language Scheme. Cynllun laith Gymraeg.

Our Transparency Policy

We have published a transparency policy which is a detailed, in-depth document, designed to ensure that organisations and individuals understand how information concerning them will be treated.

Assessment of energy opportunities 

This report, prepared by the Carbon Trust, presents the results of an Assessment of Energy Opportunities Survey conducted in May 2008 by Energy Management Consultancy Ltd.

Relationship with the Ministry of Justice 

The ICO is an independent public body and the Ministry of Justice is the ICO’s sponsoring department within Government. 

A Framework Document, comprising a Management Statement and a Financial Memorandum, setting out the broad framework for within which the Commissioner, will operate has been agreed.  In particular the Framework Document covers:

  • the rules and guidelines relevant to the exercise of the Commissioner’s functions, duties and powers;
  • the conditions under which any public funds are paid to the Commissioner;
  • the arrangements for the Commissioner reporting to Parliament; and
  • the relationship between the Secretary of State and his Department, and the Commissioner.
